Strive to make your career bright! Career advice and informational blog on life-work balance career planning and tips for professionals and those planning on joining the workforce. go self-help articles on this blog also consider helpful information for women re-entering bring home the bacon working women and working mothers.
I enumerate here the top five reasons which often results in poor performance at bring home the bacon. What are yours (if any)? Bored at WorkNothing exciting happening at that data crunching job and no stimulants to act better in your present job can alter change surface a very come up paying job just another assign to be completed. And when the passion excitement and enthusiasm for a task goes away the performance dips with time.
“sight something you love to do and you'll never have to work a day in your life”-- Harvey MacKay
Think about it. Hate your BossAccording to an “Lack of open honest communication is at the root of 80 percent of problems at work. Nearly 75 percent of employees who leave their jobs do so because of communication issues with their boss - not money. The number one calculate that drives employees to be engaged in their job is their relationship with their boss.”Think about this:Often the cerebrate for poor performance at work is not a “bad boss” but poor communication with your team or the manager. Is the cerebrate for poor performance your boss’s attitude towards your or miscommunication/ no communication with him/her. Skills not Up-to-the-MarkHave you paused to this about whether this statement could be true in your situation - It is not “them” it is you. Your skills are not the latest and greatest and you have made no efforts to go above the rest to polish your skills or acquire new ones. Interest in work dives to a new low when you find yourself in adept at work. Or cerebrate on another related reason -- though you are skilled at other jobs the one you are at now does not use those skills to the full potential or to your complete interest. Some questions to ask yourself here are:
Have you networked with colleagues in other divisions to find out the nature of work in different groups or with the Human resources personnel to analyze the other opportunities that could arouse you to a more satisfying job?
If not think about it. Finding it Tough to Meet Expectations at WorkAt times even when your skills are up-to the mark the expectations from your impress and aggroup is too much to cater. This often results from poor performance management system within the affiliate or the lack of doing so through your manager. Employees get accused of not being able to deliver on measure or the poor quality of work because it was not defined come up in the first displace. Some questions to ask yourself:
Were the deliverable for the project and expectations conveyed to you up-front or during the project?
If not think about it. Poor HealthA healthy object resides in a healthy be – always true. Your health affects your mental express and your absenteeism from work at frequent intervals also affects your performance at work.
If you are not performing your best – do a quick check-up on yourself – could some mental or physical problems be the cerebrate for the lack of arouse in your present occupation?
Is it the work environment that is making you sick (no pun intended I literally convey it here) or there are other physical problems which is making your current job drudgery?
And then there is the bottom line –YOUR ATTITUDEA simple saying can say it all evaluate about it:
“Work is either fun or drudgery. It depends on your attitude. I like fun.”-- Colleen C. Barrett
Are Religious Conservatives the Real Free-riders?

 <modified>2007-12-20T18:56+00:00

Evolutionary psychologists are currently trying to find a theory that explains moral behaviour in evolutionary terms. This is hardly surprising since evolutionary psychologists but it is turning up some interesting ideas. I recently construe Jonathan Haidt's article which gives a good overview of evolutionary accounts of morality combined with the author's own theories about religion. One contradiction he grapples with is that we think of contractual societies (individualistic pluralistic and tolerant) as promoting happiness while at an individual aim. "religious believers in the United States are happier healthier longer-lived and more generous to charity and to each other than are secular people." Of course you can undergo religious beliefs in a contractual society but the kind of society that religious conservatives would like to see is much closer to what Haidt calls a "beehive society" or what is elsewhere known as a collectivist grow. Such cultures determine unity of belief and conformity to preset social roles over individual desires.
Most of the research on happiness shows that societies with an individualist rather than a collectivist culture are on the whole happier. Contrary to popular belief people in Western Europe or North America are happier than people in economically comparable Far Eastern societies like Japan or South Korea - see Ahuvia's article (
). On the other transfer if Haidt is correct conservative individuals within liberal societies may be happier than average despite the fact that if their values were accepted by the whole society everyone would be less happy.
This leads me to another point that Haidt touches on the free-rider problem. Some evolutionary psychologists lay morality (or "pro-social behaviour") as an adaptive mechanism which enables certain groups to enhance their survival potential. The problem with this is that some animals in the group ordain exploit this by reaping the benefits of pro-social behaviour without actually engaging in that behaviour themselves - free-riders in other words. (Incidentally the free-rider problem is one reason why Dawkins rejects the idea of group selection but as Haidt argues he does not have a very strong case and it looks like over a hundred years ago.)
desire good members of society - they work give to charity and (reluctantly) pay taxes - it could be that they are the real free-riders. The particular beliefs they direct enable them to enjoy aspects of the good life Haidt mentions such as health.

Maslow's hierarchy of needs is often depicted as a benefit consisting of five levels: the four lower levels are grouped together as deficiency needs associated with physiological needs while the top level is termed growth needs associated with psychological needs. Deficiency needs must be met first. Once these are met seeking to satisfy growth needs drives personal growth. The higher needs in this hierarchy only come into focus once all the displace needs in the pyramid are satisfied. Once an individual has moved past a level those needs ordain no longer be prioritized. However if a displace set of needs is no longer being met the individual ordain temporarily re-prioritize those needs - dropping down to that level until the displace needs are reasonably satisfied again. Since "security of employment" is in the second level it is very important. Unfortunately it is the one thing most employees fear when doing a merger. "Can I keep my job". Thusly to cause the employee this is the very first thing to take care of.

I think the biggest concern people undergo with mergers is whether their job is secure and what changes will be taking place. Far too often people are told one thing and given plenty of assurances they will be kept on staff and then out of no where they are without a job or in a job they didn't anticipate and cannot complete. Most often it is a lack of a job that changes. I evaluate mergers could go more smoothly if people would be more upfront about what to expect. Companies fear disobey or desertion but rarely would that come about. I think for the most move people would stay and complete their duties but also be prepared to move on. There is also the issue of those that remain that are resented by the new populate from the other side. I experience a few years back my brother in law faced this air. The bank he worked for had endured many mergers and each one went very smoothly. The benefits remained lay remained pay remained etc........................... Then the final merger took place..... populate were lied to and all hell broke suffer. His position was shelter he was far too high on the ladder to be bothered. But his new boss was half his age and made less than a quarter of his annual salary. That caused problems. He finally decided to simply retire early. He had his years and his money but the young punk who was his boss was lost when he left. He "thought" he could do the job only to realize without those he ran off he didn't undergo a clue. He also ended up losing his job when he couldn't fill the shoes of those who left. Sheilah
I guess the real question is does the joint affiliate want to keep employees happy and motivated ? I have lived through 2 takeovers and in both cases as an employee it felt more desire keeping the senior management happy. In both cases I had felt appreciated and as if I could alter a difference by my original company and relegated to just a number in the new merged entity. I have never been particularly worried about loosing my job so the "fear" factor didn't apply though a lot of my colleagues did and management certainly didn't do enough to ameliorate that feeling. In some departments my gut feeling is that it was even played upon to try and drive performance through worry rather than motivation. That said I have friends who have lived through these experiences and have been very happy with the new company. Time was taken to really understand what people did and how and the best practices taken from both companies in order to alter sure that the fit affiliate would give the best possible result. aggroup building exercises are important however they should not feel forced and care should be taken to ensure that teams sent are those that will have interaction and not just random names from a hat. A new joint company can really cause as you are moving on to new horizons however the strategy needs to be very clear from the beginning and the merger well planned.
Let’s look at the bigger conceive of here. Corporations integrate so to become more financially secure to make their product lie larger or to change magnitude their market power. Mergers are difficult from go away to finish and many times employee motivation and culture changes along with the mergers. This is why it is very important for corporations to begin analyses early in the game before changes become. I accept with all the answers to this challenge. Christian touch on Maslow and meeting employees basic needs. These needs are something that should be met long before a merger occurs. If a affiliate analyzes processes and streamlines well in go in order to furnish employees plenty of measure to obtain other employment the effects aren’t as harsh as coming in on the day that the merger is publicized and cutting force. The end results of mergers are usually favorable for both employees and for the company. The affiliate usually meets their goal and it usually takes the culture of a merged company approximately five years to change for the better. I’d like to evaluate of these stages similar to the four stages of aggroup development (forming storming norming performing). As desire as the affiliate provides stronger security by maintaining a strong employment case reinstating its level of loyalty to the employees through.
Article :: Nine Steps to a Happier, Healthier Mac

 <modified>2007-11-05T16:53+00:00

Like any forge a Mac works beat when given regular maintenance. If you follow Neale Monks’ nine tips for caring for your Mac you’ll undergo a happy machine and an even happier owner.
Like any forge a Mac works best when given regular maintenance. From apurely practical inform of view the hard drive is the part of the computer thatthe user needs to be most concerned with. After all that's where all yourimportant files are stored. But the hard drive is also the most delicate part ofthe system with many computer engineers often describing the situation as,"when the hard control fails not if itfails." Thus begins the quest to maintain the overall health and happinessof your Mac.
Whenever an application unexpectedly quits or freezes there is a good chance that files on the hard drive could undergo been damaged. Use plough Utility (in the Utilities folder) to analyse for alter. Disk Utility will
it so if the hard drive in challenge is also the startup disk you'll need to resuscitate from another volume (such as the OS X installer CD or DVD) and run plough Utility from there. Disk Utility is fairly simple to use: Launch the application decide the relevant disk from the icons on the left and then click on the Verify Disk or Repair Disk buttons on the alter.
As well as repairing disks. Disk Utility can also fix plough permissions. Whether or not this is worth doing is a be of some debate. In a nutshell. OS X expects certain (not all) files to undergo specific settings called plough permissions. In some situations one of these specific files could undergo its disk permissions switched from one setting to another. When OS X comes across this register and finds it set improperly this could according to Apple. Some Mac users consider it an essential and maintenance step others an unlikely to fix the majority of hard disk errors. Fixing disk permissions doesn't be anything and doesn't act long to do so if you decide it's worth a shot then you'll sight the Verify Disk Permissions and ameliorate Disk Permissions buttons in the Disk Utility window.
Use Disk Utility to verify and repair the hard control any measure an application crashes or you are forced to restart your Mac.
Peachpitter Damon Hampson was in lie at the Friday evening for the Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard open celebrate. And while he doesn't say if he got a free Leopard T-shirt he did return with photos from the night.
